I’ve been in a “music” state of mind lately, particularly after my last post. Since then I’ve uncovered another famous English speaking artist that is doing a crossover Spanish musical recording – Nelly Furtado. A Canadian of Portuguese background Nelly has decided that her next album will be entirely in Spanish. I’m enthused by the fact that yet another English speaking artist is “going Spanish”. With the exception of ABBA (my favorite band when I was a pre-teen) there have been few popular English speaking artists that have decided to make a full length album in Spanish. The fact that Nelly Furtado is doing it in some ways is a natural given her Iberian ancestry but the fact that she does so naturally and with passion is exactly the type of bilingualism and love of both cultures that is at the heart of dual language education.
